IRVINE, California (December 5) -- With the first major swell of the winter season poised to strike the West Coast, the Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards are about to kick into high gear.
Presented by Surfline, the fourth annual XXL Awards have earned a reputation as the world championship of big wave riding.

BILLABONG XXL BIG WAVE AWARDS SHOCKED BY HUGE FRENCH SURF
Belharra is an outer reef located 2 km outside of St Jean de Luz, in the south west
of France. It is a right and a left-hander, with the left hander being
longer. The forecasts had looked absolutely perfect for the previous 4 days, with a 25 ft
swell at 20 seconds coming, no wind and blue skies.
